Chadwell Heath Baptist Church (CHBC) has been a place of worship and serving the community for 113 years and we would like to continue to do this.  We run a number of community initiatives including:

  • Running a baby bank which supports local families (up to 500 so far).
  • Host a night shelter for the homeless on Friday evenings
  • Run a 'stay and play' group called Noah's Ark for parents and their under 5's
  • Run summer clubs for children
  • Hold celebrations including the Good Friday walk of witness, and outdoor carol services
  • Host community events including the Queen's 90th birthday celebrations

Our halls are also used by community groups including the Chadwell Heath Historical Society, Lyceum Tutoring, Pilates, self-defence, counselling services, Irish dance classes, and two brass bands. Numerous children's parties and private hire events also take place regularly. We also provide supplies for the local Barking and Dagenham foodbank and act as a drop-off point for Samaritans Purse.

So why do we need to update our buildings?

Sanctuary old Sanctuary oldold Front

The age of the buildings and the lack of investment in them over the last 40-50 years has meant that the current state of the buildings will need £0.5 million of repairs just to bring them back to a safe and usable state.

CHBC does not have the money to do this (there is no central Baptist funding), and so are faced with the choice of redeveloping the whole site with greatly improved facilities, funded by the sale of residential flats, or for the whole site to fall into disrepair and be sold.

Our current facilities don't allow us to use the kitchen facilities or have disabled access across the site.  The new development is an opportunity for CHBC to greatly improve it's community facilities and church worship areas.

Our new proposal includes having a new community hall that is accessed on the High Road (at the moment it is behind the church), with residential units above and behind. Please do explore the plans for more information, visit our FAQ section, and let us know your thoughts.
